Privacy policy
Last updated 12 October 2026
This page covers what we collect on socioping.com, why we need it, who helps us handle it, how long we keep it, and how you can see, fix or delete it. We collect as little as we can. We don't sell your data and we don't run ads.
Who we are
socioping.com is run by SocioPing Networks (OPC) Private Limited ("SocioPing", "we", "us"). Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, we are the Data Fiduciary for the personal data described here.
This policy covers the website: your account, the waitlist, first-access signups, RSVPs for free events and tickets for paid events. The SocioPing app has its own privacy policy.
What we collect and why
| What | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Email address | You log in | To create your account, so your waitlist spot, signups and tickets belong to you and only you can see them. |
| Name and profile photo from Google | You choose Continue with Google | Google shares these with every sign-in. We use your first initial for the account button and nothing else. We never get your Google password or contacts. |
| Your agreement to our Terms and Privacy policy, and that you're 18 or older | Your first log in | We keep the date and the version you agreed to, because the law asks us to be able to show your consent. |
| That you joined the waitlist | You join | To tell you when the app is live. Nothing else. |
| Which events you signed up for, and any pre-order you add, like dandiya sticks | You get first access or RSVP | To keep the guest list, send your confirmation and email you about that event, like a change of time. |
| A second email you link, like your college Google account, and whether Google says your college manages that account | You link it from your account or from a college event | So you can log in with either email, and so we can show you events only your college can see. We check the part after the @ and that Google verified it. We don't contact your college and we never read your mail. |
| A ticket key made by your phone | You open your ticket | Your browser creates a key that never leaves your phone. We keep only its public half, so we can tell a live ticket from a copy at the door. It says nothing about you on its own. |
| Check-in record: when you came in and which volunteer scanned you | You're scanned at the door | So each ticket gets in once, and so we can sort out problems at the gate. |
| Pre-order pick-up: when you collected it, how many, whether you paid by cash or UPI, and which volunteer handed it over | You collect a pre-order at the stall | So each pre-order is handed over once and the stall's cash adds up at the end of the night. |
| Name and phone number | You buy a ticket | To check you in at the door and reach you if plans change on the day. |
| Payment details | You buy a ticket | Razorpay handles the payment. We never see your card number, UPI PIN or bank login. We only receive the payment ID, amount, status and method, so we can confirm your ticket and process refunds. |
| Sign-in records: time, IP address and browser | You log in | To protect your account and stop abuse, like someone trying lots of codes. |
| IP address, browser type and time of visit | Every visit | To keep the site running and to stop bots and spam. |
At the door the venue may look at your photo ID to check your age. We don't copy it or keep it.
Cookies
We don't use advertising or tracking cookies. When you log in, your browser keeps a login token in its local storage so you stay logged in. It's removed when you log out. If you use Google sign-in or our bot check, Google and Cloudflare may set cookies their services need to work securely. At checkout, Razorpay may do the same. If we ever add analytics, we'll ask you first.
Who we share it with
We use a few services to run the site. They only handle your data to provide their service to us.
- Supabase runs our login system and database and stores your account, waitlist spot and signups.
- Google confirms who you are if you choose Continue with Google.
- Resend sends your login codes, RSVP confirmations and event emails.
- Cloudflare Turnstile checks that a real person is logging in, so bots can't flood signups. Cloudflare says it doesn't use this data for ads.
- Netlify hosts the website.
- Razorpay processes payments and refunds.
Event hosts and their door volunteers. When an event is run with a partner, like a college club, the host's volunteers use our door scanner. When they scan your ticket they see your first name and last initial. Lead volunteers can look you up by name to check you in by hand if your phone dies, and they see a shortened email like riy…@college.ac.in. On the day of the event a lead can print a backup guest list with names and shortened emails, in case the network fails, and is asked to shred it afterwards. Stall volunteers scan the same ticket to hand over a pre-order. They see your name, what you pre-ordered and whether it's been collected, and during the event they can see and print the list of pre-orders with shortened emails. Leads see who came in and who collected, including whether they paid by cash or UPI. Hosts see how many people RSVPed and came in, and the email addresses of the volunteers they add to their team. We don't give hosts your email address or contact details.
Some of these companies store data outside India. We never sell or rent your data, and we don't share it with advertisers. We share data with the police, a court or a regulator only when the law requires it, and only what's needed.
How long we keep it
- Your account and everything linked to it: until you delete it. Deleting your account removes it straight away, and backup copies expire within 30 days.
- Waitlist emails collected before 30 September 2026, when the waitlist didn't need an account: kept only to send the launch email, then deleted by 31 December 2026.
- Event signups, pre-orders, pick-ups, ticket keys and check-in records: 90 days after the event, unless you keep your account. If you delete your account, the stall keeps only the number handed over and the amount for its cash count, with nothing that points to you.
- Door and stall logs and email delivery logs: up to 90 days.
- Volunteer team changes (who added or removed a volunteer, and when): up to 180 days.
- A linked email: until you remove it from your account or delete your account.
- Phone number from a ticket: 30 days after the event.
- Ticket and payment records (name, email, amount and payment ID): 8 years, because tax and company law require us to keep financial records. If you delete your account we keep only these, with nothing else attached.
- Sign-in records and server logs: up to 90 days.
Your rights
On your account page you can see the data we hold, leave the waitlist, cancel event signups and delete your account yourself, any time.
You can also ask us to:
- tell you what personal data we hold about you and who we've shared it with
- correct, complete or update it
- delete it, unless the law requires us to keep it, like payment records
- stop using it where you gave consent. This doesn't undo anything we did before you asked.
- let a person you nominate use these rights for you if you die or can't act yourself
Email grievance@socioping.com from the address you use with us. We'll acknowledge your request within 48 hours and act on it within one month. We may ask you to confirm it's really you first.
If you're not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
Want this policy in Kannada, Hindi or another Indian language? Email us and we'll send it to you.
Age
Accounts, the waitlist and our events are for people 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone younger. If you think someone under 18 has signed up, tell us and we'll delete their account.
Keeping it safe
Every connection to this site is encrypted. There are no passwords to steal: you log in with Google or a one-time code sent to your email. Our database only lets you read your own account. Only the founders and the volunteers of an event you signed up for can see who's on that guest list: gate volunteers see who comes in, stall volunteers see only who pre-ordered, and both lose access a few hours after the event ends. Your ticket can't be forged or copied: each code is signed by a key that never leaves your phone and expires within seconds. Payment details stay with Razorpay. If a breach ever affects your data, we'll tell you and the Data Protection Board as the law requires.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top and ask you to agree again the next time you log in. If a change affects how we use data you've already given us, we'll email you before it takes effect.
